Job Description Summary Organization's Summary Statement: The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) is currently accepting applications for an Academic Support Associate at the Universities at Shady Grove and at the University System of Maryland at Hagerstown. Please note that the work location is in Rockville, MD and/or Hagerstown, MD. About the School The School is home to five academic departments: Business, Management, and Accounting; Engineering and Aviation Sciences; Hospitality and Tourism Management; Computer Science and Engineering Technology; and The Built Environment. Additionally, the School offers several of its programs at University System of Maryland (USM) regional centers and off-campus locations including the Universities at Shady Grove, USM-Hagerstown, the Baltimore Museum of Industry, and the Salisbury Maryland Airport. About the University Enrolling over 2,200 students, The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) is a land-grant, historically black college founded in 1886 as the Delaware Conference Academy. Since its beginning, the institution has had several name changes and governing bodies. It was Maryland State College from 1948 until 1970, when it became one of the five campuses that formed the University of Maryland. In 1988, it became a member of the then eleven campus (now thirteen) University of Maryland System, now known as the University System of Maryland. UMES is approved by the state of Maryland and fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The university is located approximately 15 miles south of Salisbury, Maryland within easy commuting distance to Baltimore, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, and New York. Responsibilities: •Work with the off-site and distance education students in the academic programs housed in the School of Business and Technology to help them navigate the various UMES processes such as adding, dropping, and withdrawing from courses and the submission of graduation applications. •Assist students in determining course transferability and course planning. •Maintain students’ records and assist faculty with advice to ensure the on-time graduation of the students. •Provide ongoing support and program guidance for in-person and distance learning students and faculty. •Familiarize students with the offices of Registrar, Admissions, Financial Aid, etc. to ensure access to assistance as needed. •Perform other related duties as assigned. Required Minimum Qualifications: ·Bachelor’s degree. ·Experience in an administrative support role in corporate or higher education environment. ·Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. ·Excellent written communication skills. ·Proficiency in data and the ability to derive insights from complex datasets. Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: ·Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. ·Ability to manage people. Preferences: Master’s degree in a field in Technology or Higher Education Administration Physical Demands: May require extended periods of sitting at desk. May require lifting up to 25 lbs. Requires communication with a variety of constituents externally and internally. Requires operation of a variety of office. Licenses/ Certifications: N/A Minimum Qualifications Do not use without previous authorization from Central Human Resources Office. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. • Experience: One (1) year of professional administrative or coordinator experience. • Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: • Knowledge of best practices in organization, administration, and customer service. • Knowledge of proper protocol in dealing with confidential information. • Skill in oral and written communication. • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products. • Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws. • Ability to multitask while demonstrating a commitment to customer service and sensitivity to a culturally and ethnically diverse community.
