Job Description Summary Organization's Summary Statement: The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) invites applicants to apply for a full-time, twelve-month tenured faculty position. Librarian Rank will be assigned at the initial appointment to the position. The role of the Cataloging/Metadata Librarian is to provide support and direction in all areas and guidelines of the integrated library system that is used within the USMAI library consortium. Responsibilities: • Performs original & copy cataloging records for print, non-print & digital items. • Assists in the maintenance & operation of the library’s automation system for bibliographic control. • Supervision of Library Services Tech and student assistants. • Information literacy instruction. • Reference desk assistance & other related duties assigned. Required Qualifications: • Graduate degree in library science or related degree from an ALA accredited institution • Must be able to work rotating Saturdays Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: • Familiar with all aspects & guidelines of cataloging tools & principles (Integrated Library Systems, LC Subject Headings & Classification, OCLC bibliographic formats & authority files • MARC, AACR2, OCLC experience • Integrated library system & OCLC system experience • Collection development experience • Ability to work as a team member and/or work independently • Ability to problem solve • Ability to communicate effectively Physical Demands: • May require extended periods of standing, bending, sitting at desk. • May require lifting up to 25 lbs. • Requires communication with a variety of constituents externally and internally. • Requires operation of a variety of office equipment. Preferences: • One to two years of recent cataloging experience.
