Heavy Equipment Mechanic (EAGLE 2025-24025):
Bowhead seeks a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team in support of the Maintenance and Supply Divisions at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Aberdeen, MD. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for a variety of tasks supporting many departments but typical duties include analyzing malfunctions and repairing and rebuilding heavy equipment.
This contract is governed by a CBA, and as such, any employee accepting employment on this contract will be required to join the CBA within 30 days of beginning employment.

Essential functions will include:

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for a variety of tasks supporting many departments but typical duties include analyzing malfunctions and repairing and rebuilding heavy equipment.

Responsibilities
Essential functions will include:
- Analyzing malfunctions and repair s, rebuild s and maintains heavy equipment, such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, c ompressors, and pneumatic tools.
- Operating and inspect ing machines o r equipment to diagnose defects.
- Dismantl ing and reassembling equipment, using hoists and hand tools.
- Examining parts for damage or excessive wea r, using micrometers and gauges.
- Replac ing defective engines and sub-assemblies , such as transmissions.
- Test ing and overhaul ing equipment to insure operating efficiency.
- Welds broken parts.
- Identif ying parts required for repairs using repair manuals, end item t ech support or Internet search.
- Clean ing parts and assem bles and disassembles equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required in addition to at least two ( 2 ) years’ experience as a heavy equipment mechanic AND at least two (2 ) years of experience as a qualified welder is required
- Must possess a valid state Commercial Driver License (CDL) with acceptable driving record pertinent to the position, or be able to obta in a valid state CDL within 90 days of hiring . Must maintain the CDL and an acceptable driving record during the duration of employ ment
- Must possess and maintain welding qualification in accordance with American Welding Society (AWS) standards for the equipment and material utilized
- Any prior experience with government contracts and locations is helpful
- Basic to intermediate level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
- Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team
- Lift/carry/push/slide up to 50 pounds routinely.
- Bend, squat, stoop, crouch, and lean.
- Sit for long periods of time operating a computer keyboard.
- Repeat the same movements.
- Exposure to excessive noise.
