Position Summary
Employee will assist in the development and application of MCMC data analysis techniques for research on ion densities at liquid interfaces. Will work under the direction of Prof. Mark Schlossman.
Duties & Responsibilities
1. Will apply MCMC analysis to previously measured X-ray data. MCMC (Markov Chain Monte Carlo) is a Bayesian analysis procedure that is used to understand correlations between parameters in multi-parameter fits.
· This is important for the X-ray data under consideration which is typically modeled with four to ten parameters.
· We have recently applied such analysis to part of the data set, which was published.
· However, much of the data set, roughly 70%, has not been analyzed.
· We anticipate further insights and publications will result once the data set is fully analyzed.
2. Will develop MCMC analysis protocols for analyzing X-ray data.
· We have found that different parts of the data set have required different approaches to successfully analyze the data with MCMC.
· We anticipate that applying MCMC methods to the rest of the data set will require further development of the protocols for data analysis.
· Specifically, the protocols involve selection of the appropriate parameters as well as the appropriate range of each parameter for different parts of the data set.
3. Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
