Position Summary
Key functions of the Extra Help Medical Technologist II (Molecular Technical Specialist–Remote) include providing technical support for staff. The role includes offering interpretive and analytical support for clonality NGS testing and the pharmacogenomic NGS panel currently in development. Responsibilities include troubleshooting complex issues involving instrument hardware, software, and connectivity. The position also provides IS support by participating in IS improvements and engaging in all aspects of the validation process through the “go live” of new tests.
Effective communication is essential and occurs through electronic means such as Teams, email, phone, and text. The role requires the use of EPIC, MediaLab, and the secure section of the shared drive to complete work tasks. This position requires a strong molecular biology background with a deep understanding of the basics and biology of genes. This position is to provide coverage for the period it takes to recruit a full-time replacement and provide training for the new hire.
Duties & Responsibilities
Provide consultative support for ongoing next generation sequencing projects and existing tests.
Provide remote review of procedures, QC sheets, and PCR worksheets.
Collaborate with the section manager to complete a cost analysis worksheet for each new test and maintain accuracy of existing ones by updating with vendor cost changes.
Remotely provide intellectual, analytical, and interpretive support to the Molecular Pathology Director to customize reports for the TRG and IGH Gene Rearrangement analysis by NGS test, and electronically communicate with clinicians to discuss cases and appropriate testing.
Consult on complex technical explanations with patient care providers.
Consult on identified issues with instruments and assays.
Provide EPIC/Beaker test build support to Molecular Pathology and other sections Clinical Genomics, Anatomic/Surgical Pathology.
In MediaLab, review and answer questions in Inspection Proof for the loaded, CAP Molecular Pathology Checklist, All Common Checklist, and Laboratory General Checklist.
Interact with physicians and staff via electronic messages and telephone conversations in a pleasant and helpful manner.
Perform other remote duties as assigned.
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
