A great UHY client is seeking a Senior Accountant. The ideal candidate will have public accounting experience, a strong foundation in U.S. GAAP and accrual accounting, and the flexibility to thrive in a fast-growing environment while helping build scalable accounting processes.
The Senior Accountant role is a remote position. This is a direct hire position.
Senior Accountant Responsibilities
- Perform full-cycle accounting activities in accordance with U.S. GAAP and accrual accounting principles.
- Prepare and record monthly journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, leases, equity, and intangible assets.
- Prepare and maintain accurate balance sheet reconciliations.
- Review balance sheet and income statement accounts for accuracy, completeness, and proper accounting treatment.
- Research and resolve account discrepancies and historical accounting issues.
- Help establish and execute a consistent month-end close process across the organization.
- Maintain close schedules, checklists, and supporting documentation to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Support continuous improvements to the month-end close process, with a focus on creating an efficient and scalable close.
- Lead accounting cleanup and reconciliation efforts for newly acquired entities.
- Support the transition of acquired businesses from cash-basis to accrual-basis accounting.
- Review historical accounting records, identify inconsistencies, and prepare required accounting adjustments.
- Standardize accounting processes, reconciliations, and financial reporting across multiple entities.
- Assist with integrating newly acquired businesses into the company's accounting systems, chart of accounts, and reporting structure.
- Prepare financial reporting schedules and supporting analyses for management.
- Analyze financial results, investigate unusual trends and variances, and recommend corrective actions.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial information.
- Collaborate with finance leadership to develop and document accounting policies, procedures, and standardized workflows.
- Support the optimization of Sage Intacct and assist with accounting system integrations from legacy platforms.
- Help build scalable accounting processes and infrastructure to support continued company growth through acquisitions.
Senior Accountant Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Public accounting experience is strongly preferred.
- CPA license or progress toward CPA certification is a plus, but not required.
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and accrual-basis accounting.
- Solid understanding of debits, credits, balance sheet accounts, and income statement relationships.
- Experience with full-cycle accounting, journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close.
- Experience identifying accounting issues, researching solutions, and independently driving resolutions.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable working independently without well-established processes or procedures.
- Experience with multi-entity accounting is preferred.
- Experience supporting acquisitions, accounting cleanups, or business integrations is a plus.
- Experience transitioning organizations from cash-basis to accrual-basis accounting is preferred.
- Experience building accounting processes and close procedures from the ground up is a plus.
- Experience with lease accounting and intangible assets is preferred.
- Sage Intacct experience is a plus, but not required.
- Healthcare, dental services, or other acquisition-driven industry experience is preferred.
- Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to roll up your sleeves, learn quickly, remain adaptable, and contribute wherever needed.
