AR Collections Specialist

A great UHY client is seeking an AR Collections Specialist to join their team. The ideal candidate will have 5 years of collections experience, proficient in Microsoft Excel and manufacturing experience.

The AR Collections Specialist role is an onsite position. This is a temporary, contracted position with the potential for direct hire.

AR Collections Specialist Key Responsibilities

• Manage collection activities for an assigned portfolio of customer accounts in a professional, efficient, and customer-focused manner.
• Identify factors contributing to late payments and recommend solutions to management.
• Investigate and resolve payment discrepancies, disputes, and related issues with professionalism.
• Prepare documentation for new customer setups and credit limit evaluations for management review.
• Obtain and review credit reports through third-party credit reporting tools.
• Collaborate with internal teams to resolve billing issues required to release orders on hold.
• Research and address customer credit memo inquiries.
• Process customer payments and refunds in accordance with organizational policies.
• Support month-end close activities and assist with preparing financial reports as needed.
• Review payment remittance details from shared inboxes or payment portals.
• Access and navigate customer portals to obtain required information or complete necessary tasks.
• Maintain and update customer account records, including changes to contact or address information.
• Ensure adherence to internal policies, procedures, and controls related to accounts receivable.
• Contribute to continuous improvement efforts for accounts receivable processes.
• Respond to customer inquiries regarding billing, invoices, and payment status.
• Prepare documentation related to internal compliance requirements (e.g., SOX controls).
• Assist with internal and external audits involving accounts receivable.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

AR Collections Specialist Qualifications

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
• 5–8 years of collections experience, ideally in a B2B or manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; strong Excel skills (such as VLOOKUP and PivotTables) required.
• Strong customer service mindset with the ability to build and maintain professional relationships.
• Effective communication skills for working with both internal teams and external customers.
• High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
• Experience using customer accounts payable portals to submit invoices, check payment status, or resolve issues.
• Understanding of credit principles, creditworthiness, and basic accounting is a plus.
• Experience with AS400 or similar ERP systems is advantageous.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with compliance requirements.
• Strong negotiation and conflict-resolution skills with a results-oriented mindset.
• Ability to balance maintaining positive customer relationships with ensuring timely collections.
