A great UHY client is seeking an Accounting Manager to support accounting operations within a mission-driven nonprofit organization focused on community impact throughout Southeast Michigan. This role will oversee accounting activities related to grants, gifts, and donor advised funds while leading a collaborative team and supporting ongoing operational and process improvement initiatives.
The Accounting Manager role is a hybrid position based in Detroit, MI, requiring approximately three days per week onsite. Accounting Manager Responsibilities
- Supervise and review the work of accounting and financial staff supporting grants, gifts, and donor advised funds
- Support weekly payment processing activities
- Reconcile incoming gifts, grants, and related transactions
- Maintain and update fund balances and related accounting records
- Create and maintain vendor and grantee records
- Support purchase card administration, including account setup and maintenance
- Assist with general ledger maintenance and account updates
- Support Form 990 preparation and related accounting activities
- Participate in month-end close processes and checklist completion
- Assist with fund setup, updates, and retirements
- Support process improvements and systems-related initiatives as needed
Accounting Manager Requirements
- Nonprofit accounting experience required
- Experience with grants accounting required
- Experience with gifts and donor advised funds preferred
- Prior management or supervisory experience required
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Systems implementation experience is a plus
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities
- Ability to thrive in a team-oriented, mission-driven environment
