Department Overview:

We provide campus employees with the full range of personnel services and participate in systemwide policy and decision-making. Human Resources includes CHRO Administration, Business and Fiscal Operations, and six functional domains: Talent Solutions; People Programs and Rewards; HR Strategy and Policy; People Support; Organization Effectiveness; and Strategic Consulting, Assessments and Analytics.

The People Support Domain provides comprehensive human resources services, ensuring employee and organizational needs are met with efficiency and care. It manages systems and processes to address employee inquiries, resolve HR issues, and maintain compliance with policies. The domain offers strategic HR consultation, supports payroll and timekeeping operations, facilitates student employment programs, and enhances work experiences through advising and professional development opportunities. By prioritizing collaboration and resourcefulness, the domain fosters a supportive environment that drives both employee satisfaction and organizational success.

The Integrated HR Services team provides specific organizational areas with full-service human resources consultation, guidance and support. Our team of HR Generalists and HR assistants provide everything from strategic partnership related to a department/unit's mission and goals to answering routine employee questions related to their UC and/or UC San Diego employment. We help guide employees through policies and programs and service as a conduit to connect staff to resources.

Position Overview

In support of the Client Department and HR Business Partner (HRBP), the Human Resources Specialist applies professional human resources knowledge of organizational policies and practices to provide guidance to employees, supervisors, and managers to resolve human resources issues of moderate scope and complexity.

The Specialist provides comprehensive support across various human resources functions. This includes supporting performance appraisal processes, administering leaves of absence, and coordinating classification and compensation requests, like the development of job descriptions and processing reclassifications and equity requests. The Specialist also advises on employment-related matters and provides general HR support. In collaboration with supervisors and managers, the Specialist coordinates recruitment, hiring, and onboarding activities. The role also involves maintaining HR data, generating reports, analyzing trends, and making recommendations based on data insights.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations; demonstrates organizational skills and problem-solving skills. Has working knowledge of other areas of HR.
  • Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures and knowledge of functional area.
  • Basic knowledge of human resources policies and programs, and how they affect other organizational policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of a human resources management system (HRMS), and / or other related business software programs and systems.
  • Proficient in communicating clearly and effectively verbally and in writing and in integrating information in the completion of assignments.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle difficult or volatile situations / individuals effectively.
  • Demonstrated competency with and commitment to fostering fairness, respect, and inclusion in alignment with the Principles of Community.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.
  • Overtime and weekends may be required.
  • This position has been identified as a Mandated Reporter pursuant to the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and requires immediate reporting of physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, or neglect of anyone under the age of 18. It is the responsibility of the Mandated Reporter to ensure that they obtain proper training in order to fulfill their reporting responsibilities as required by the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and University policy, and to complete and submit the required reports to the UC San Diego Police Department without delay.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $65,800 - $115,000 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $31.51 - $55.08

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
