Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and vigilant Security Officer to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for our clients, employees, and visitors. This position requires strong observational skills, the ability to respond effectively to incidents, and a commitment to upholding safety protocols. Hours of operation Monday thru Sunday 11pm-7am.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a professional and highly visible security presence throughout the assigned eight-hour shift.
- Monitor the main entrance, exits, checkout areas, customer areas, restrooms, and other assigned portions of the travel center.
- Observe customer activity for theft, suspicious behavior, disturbances, threats, or other safety concerns.
- Help deter shoplifting, vandalism, loitering, trespassing, and disorderly conduct.
- Monitor individuals entering and leaving the facility.
- Prevent unauthorized access to employee-only or restricted areas.
- Assist travel-center employees when customers become disruptive or aggressive.
- Use professional verbal de-escalation techniques whenever possible.
- Politely advise individuals of facility rules when violations are observed.
- Notify management regarding suspicious or unusual activity.
- Contact a security supervisor, law enforcement, fire department, or emergency medical services when circumstances require.
- Assist with maintaining clear entrances and exits.
- Observe parking-lot activity from designated areas and report suspicious vehicles or behavior.
- Conduct security walks of assigned areas when authorized and properly relieved from the primary post.
- Monitor activity involving truck drivers, vendors, delivery personnel, and other visitors.
- Observe high-risk areas such as cash registers, ATM areas, entrances, and merchandise displays.
- Assist with maintaining order during high customer-volume periods.
- Respond promptly to employee requests for security assistance.
- Immediately report threats, fights, theft, property damage, medical emergencies, or other serious incidents.
- Complete accurate daily activity logs and security reports.
- Complete detailed incident reports whenever a significant event occurs.
- Communicate important information to the officer relieving the post.
Required Qualifications
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Must Have CPL
- Possess a high school diploma or GED preferred.
- Have valid government-issued identification.
- Be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Be able to pass required background screening.
- Have reliable transportation.
- Be dependable and punctual.
- Have strong communication skills.
- Be capable of maintaining professionalism in stressful situations.
- Be able to understand and follow written post orders.
- Be capable of writing clear incident reports.
- Be comfortable interacting with the public.
- Possess applicable Michigan security credentials when required for the position.
