Position Summary
The Welder is responsible for fabricating, welding, and assembling sheet metal, structural, and process piping components to project specifications and applicable quality standards. This role reads and interprets blueprints, weld symbols, and shop drawings to produce precise, code-compliant welds, and works closely with the Production Manager and Quality team to support on-time, high-quality output across manufacturing operations.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform MIG/ FLUX on carbon steel, stainless steel, and other materials per approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
- Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and shop drawings to determine joint design, sequencing, and fit-up requirements.
- Fit, tack, and weld components to specification, maintaining proper heat control to minimize warping and distortion.
- Fabricate and assemble sheet metal and structural metal products in coordination with cutting, forming, and fitting operations.
- Visually inspect completed welds for size, quality, and conformance to drawings and specifications prior to sign-off.
- Identify and correct weld defects; notify the Quality team or CWI of any non-conformances outside the welder's authority to correct.
- Set up, operate, and perform routine maintenance on welding equipment, ensuring proper settings for the material and joint type.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures, including proper use of PPE, ventilation, and fire-prevention practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned in accordance with the local union bargaining agreement.
Qualifications & Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Demonstrated proficiency in MIG/FLUX.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and basic shop drawings.
- Ability to pass welder qualification testing on applicable procedures.
- AWS certification or equivalent third-party weld certification, is preferred
- Prior experience in sheet metal, structural steel, or process piping fabrication.
- Forklift/lull certification, or ability to obtain certification.
