Now Hiring – Urban Youth Internship

Hours: 9:00 am -4:00 pm, Monday – Friday, 35 hours per week for 8-week program

Salary: $19.00 per hour

Location: Newburyport, MA, 2 off-site Urban Youth Collaboration Program Events that will be require additional hours. This program runs 8 weeks.

Supervision: Overall supervision is provided by the Director of Program Services and Coordinator of Human Rights & Quality Assurance (Urban Youth Coordinators). Secondary direct supervision is provided by the assigned Program Manager

Summary

The Urban Youth Program provides summer employment to local community youth between the ages of 18-24. Interns participate in this “earn while you learn” program, working at Turning Point residences for eight weeks. Must successfully pass or have current CPR/First Aid training.

The following duties and scope of responsibility are listed below but are not limited to:

ADMINISTRATIVE/EDUCATION

Ø Attend orientation during the first week of hire.

Ø Attend all functions sponsored by DDS (including but not limited to State House Event and Retreat Day).

Ø Attend specific training opportunities to increase awareness of TPI services and field of developmental disabilities.

Ø Attend weekly discussion groups with intern team and as required.

Ø Participate in performance assessment and appraisal process.

Ø Work as a team member at your assigned serve model, following instructions from Urban Youth and Residential leadership.

Ø Promote safe practices; adhere to and follow all safety policies; report any hazards to the Director, Program Coordinators or Program Managers immediately.

INDIVIDUAL SUPPORT

Ø Monitor individuals with whom you are assigned; know where they are and help to keep them safe.

Ø Help individuals to participate in and learn from the activities they engage in to the best of their abilities.

Ø Interact with individuals demonstrating interest in them and the activities in which they are engaging.

Ø Communicate with individuals verbally and using alternative communication

Ø Accompany and provide supervision to individuals while in their homes and in the community.

Ø Assist individuals with daily living skills and personal care needs, as needed.

Ø Demonstrate respect for the individuals’ rights and choices; help them to advocate and speak for themselves.

Ø Report medical and behavioral concerns to staff and supervisors.

Ø Honor people’s right to confidentiality and follow all HIPAA policies.

Ø Understand your role and responsibility as a mandated reporter.

RECORDS AND DOCUMENTATION

Ø Complete data documentation as directed and trained by your supervisor.

Ø Report all incidents and unusual occurrences to your supervisor.

Ø Complete incident reports, seizure reports, and other reports as directed.

Ø Follow all agency policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Ø Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Ø High school graduate

Ø First Aid and CPR training will be completed during orientation.

Ø No Prior Experience Is Required
