Senior Property Accountant (Affordable Housing)
Location: Tysons Corner
Remote Flexibility: 5 days remote with expectation to come in one day per week (mail/check runs).
Compensation: Up to 95k
We are partnering with a leading property management company to identify an experienced Senior Property Accountant to join their growing team. This role offers the opportunity to oversee accounting operations for a diverse portfolio of residential and retail/commercial properties, ensuring accurate financial reporting and supporting both internal leadership and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Perform variance analysis on operating revenue/expenses
- Reconcile balance sheet and GL accounts; prepare bank reconciliations
- Manage debt service, owner distributions, taxes, and insurance payments
- Ensure compliance with tax filings and license renewals
- Post accruals; collaborate with managers for accuracy
- Prepare reserve filings, equity schedules, and forecasts (budget, cash, re-forecasts)
- Support audits and prepare schedules
- Communicate with operational teams and ownership groups
- Identify and implement process improvements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s in Accounting/Finance
- Required: Software experience in Yardi or MRI
- Required: Property Management of affordable housing experience
- 5 years of accounting experience (property management preferred)
- Strong GAAP knowledge
- Advanced Excel skills (vlookups, pivot tables, sumifs)
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Independent, able to manage multiple priorities
- Yardi required; affordable housing/property management strongly preferred
