Firefighter Hand Crew

Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Fire Chief, the Firefighter performs firefighting, emergency care, participates in public education activities and/or fire prevention activities, cares for station, fire apparatus and related fire equipment and participates in training activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Responds to fire and other emergency situations.
2. Operates fire equipment and assists in the suppression of fires.
3. Assists with fire prevention activities.
4. May administer first aid.
5. Tests and maintains a wide variety of fire equipment.
6. Maintains fire engine.
7. Maintains monthly safety inspection records.
8. Maintains a vehicle mileage log.
9. Maintains fire station and grounds and facilities maintenance.
10. Answers telephone and radio equipment as necessary.
11. Participates in related training programs and drills and may train subordinate staff and community members.
12. Identifies potential fire hazards and suggests processes for mitigation.
13. Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

1. Possess High School Diploma or GED.
2. Must possess a valid California driver’s license and comply with the requirements of the Tribe’s driving policy and insurance requirements.
3. Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
4. Must be able to work shifts if necessary.
5. Must possess First Aid Certificate.
6. Must undergo pre-employment and annual physical exam.
7. Must pass work capacity test for arduous positions.
8. Must be organized, self-motivated and able to perform tasks independently.
9. Must be able to interact professionally with people with a wide variety of backgrounds.
10. Able to follow detailed instructions in emergency situations.
11. Must have completed County Fire Academy or possess Fire Fighter I certification.

Physical Requirements:

This position is deemed a level 5 and requires walking, running, standing and sitting for prolonged periods of time; climbing stairs, ladders, scaffolding, ramps, etc, stooping, kneeling, crouching, balancing, crawling, reaching, pushing, pulling and lifting in excess of 100 pounds; raising objects overhead, manual dexterity, hearing, talking, good verbal and written communication skills, repetitive motions of the wrists, hands and fingers, subject to outside environmental conditions o heat and cold, walking on uneven ground, and operation of heavy-weight equipment.

Preference in filling vacancies shall be given first to qualified Tuolumne Me-Wuk Community Council Members and then to enrolled Native Americans of any federally recognized tribe.
