MRB Technician — Manufacturing Operations
Description
Amazon is seeking a mechanically skilled, detail-oriented MRB (Material Review Board) Technician to support the disposition, tracking, and resolution of nonconforming material across a high-precision manufacturing operation scaling from prototype builds toward high-volume production. This is hands-on, high-precision assembly and teardown work — you'll disassemble and reassemble tightly-toleranced mechanical and electromechanical hardware, evaluate nonconforming parts, coordinate the MRB process end-to-end, and chase issues to closure so that nonconforming material never stalls a build.
The ideal candidate has excellent mechanical hands — comfortable working inside precision assemblies, handling delicate components without damaging them, and understanding how mechanical systems fit and function. You can read an engineering drawing, you take pride in getting the details exactly right, and you have the dexterity and discipline that precision assembly demands. You should be the person who notices the thing others miss, works the problem independently, and knows when to loop in your manager or the responsible engineer to get a disposition made and executed.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Perform high-precision teardowns, evaluations, and reassembly of mechanical and electromechanical hardware — disassemble tightly-toleranced assemblies without inducing damage, inspect components, and characterize discrepancies to support disposition.
- Work with precision assemblies and components — demonstrate the mechanical aptitude, dexterity, and care required to handle delicate, close-tolerance parts correctly in a high-precision build environment.
- Receive, tag, segregate, and track nonconforming material — maintain clear physical and digital control of quarantined parts so nothing gets lost, mixed, or used by mistake.
- Coordinate the MRB process end-to-end — open nonconformance records, route them to the right reviewers (engineering, quality, supplier quality), schedule and support dispositions, and record outcomes (use-as-is, rework, repair, return, scrap).
- Work the problem independently, then follow up with the right people — evaluate what happened, whether it's isolated or systemic, and what other material might be affected. Bring questions to your manager and the responsible engineer to drive a decision; be a self-starter, not someone who needs constant direction.
- Follow up to closure — track open MRB items, chase down pending dispositions and signatures from your manager and engineering, and keep material moving. Make sure decisions get made and executed, not parked.
- Inspect parts and assemblies using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and visual methods — verify conformance to drawings and specifications, and confirm rework/repair results before material is released.
- Perform and verify precision rework and repair — execute approved mechanical rework to specification, or coordinate it, and confirm results before material is released back to the floor.
- Maintain the nonconformance log and MRB records — keep accurate, auditable records of every item, its disposition, and its final resolution. Support traceability and quality reporting.
- Flag trends and recurring issues to your manager and quality engineering — keep nonconforming material visible and moving
- Support receiving inspection and in-process quality checks as needed — apply the same mechanical rigor and attention to detail across the quality workflow.
Basic Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certificate, associate degree, or trade training in a mechanical, manufacturing, or quality discipline preferred.
- 2 years of hands-on experience in precision mechanical assembly, manufacturing, quality, or inspection working with mechanical or electromechanical products.
- Excellent mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity — proven ability to disassemble, inspect, rework, and reassemble high-precision, tightly-toleranced mechanical assemblies without inducing damage.
- Strong understanding of how mechanical systems fit and function — fasteners, bearings, press-fits, tolerances, and torque, and the ability to recognize when something isn't right.
- Ability to read an engineering drawing and interpret basic specifications and dimensions.
- Proficiency with precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, etc.).
- Exceptional attention to detail — accurate records and the discipline to get every detail right.
- Self-starter who works problems independently and knows when to follow up with their manager and the responsible engineer to drive items to closure.
- Comfortable working on the production floor and handling physical parts daily.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with precision assembly of robotics, actuators, aerospace, medical device, or other high-reliability mechanical products
- Experience with Material Review Board (MRB) processes and nonconformance disposition
- Familiarity with quality management systems and nonconformance tracking tools (e.g., Quickbase, MES, QMS software)
- Understanding of root cause analysis and corrective action processes (CAPA, 8D, 5-Why)
- Experience with receiving inspection, first article inspection (FAI), or in-process quality control
- Knowledge of ISO 9001, AS9100, or similar quality standards
- Basic data entry and spreadsheet skills for maintaining logs and supporting quality reporting
