Trueline's client, a global provider of advanced automated manufacturing systems, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Automation Engineer to join their team in Westbrook, ME (on-site). This is a high-impact role for an experienced engineer who enjoys owning projects from concept through commissioning and working hands-on with complex automation equipment.
What You'll Do as the Senior Mechanical Automation Engineer:
- Design automated assembly and test systems from initial concept through final build and launch
- Create detailed mechanical design packages including drawings, BOMs, and system documentation
- Collaborate with electrical, controls, and project teams to deliver fully integrated systems
- Participate in internal and customer design reviews and present technical solutions
- Estimate cycle times and contribute to system performance optimization
- Support builds across purchasing, fabrication, assembly, and debug phases
- Manage vendor relationships, including RFQs and technical coordination
- Develop and execute test plans and risk assessments
- Align engineering work with project scope, schedules, and budgets
Must-Haves as the Senior Mechanical Automation Engineer:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 7 years of experience in automation, machine design, or special machinery
- Strong mechanical design skills with exposure to sensors and control systems
- Proficiency with 3D CAD tools and standard engineering software
- Experience performing tolerance stack-ups and engineering calculations
- Working knowledge of GD&T and machining processes
- Hands-on mindset with willingness to support build, debug, and commissioning
Nice-to-Haves as the Senior Mechanical Automation Engineer:
- Experience in custom automation or OEM machine building environments
- Familiarity with MRP systems and structured engineering processes
- Exposure to ISO or regulated manufacturing environments
- Experience contributing to design standards or mentoring junior engineers
- Background supporting quoting or applications engineering efforts
