What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controller position at Trueline?
Trueline's client, a growing residential homebuilder and civil contracting firm, is seeking a Controller to join their team in Southern Pines, NC (on-site). This role owns the full accounting function across multiple entities and plays a key role in improving financial visibility, processes, and overall business performance.
What You'll Do as the Controller:
- Lead all accounting operations across approximately multiple entities
- Manage month-end close, financial reporting, and ensure balance sheet accuracy
- Oversee and develop a small accounting team
- Strengthen job costing, WIP reporting, and margin visibility across divisions
- Build scalable processes and reduce reliance on manual and paper-based workflows
- Partner closely with the CFO and operational leaders to provide actionable insights
- Support cash flow planning, leverage tracking, and financial health initiatives
- Establish and maintain internal controls and accounting best practices
Must-Haves as the Controller:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting
- Strong experience with financial reporting and balance sheet management
- Background in multi-entity accounting environments
- Ability to work independently and bring structure to a growing organization
- Familiarity with job costing and WIP reporting
- Experience in construction, homebuilding, or capital-intensive industries
Nice-to-Haves as the Controller:
- CPA or Master's degree in Accounting
- Experience with ERP or construction systems such as MarkSystems, Procore, or similar
