Trueline’s client, a well established law firm with a national presence, is seeking a Paralegal – Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation to join their Philadelphia office. In this role, you’ll support the Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation (EBEC) practice group by working on retirement plan matters and collaborating across the firm’s teams to deliver outstanding client service.
What You’ll Do as the Paralegal – Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation:
Draft and review plan documents and amendments covering defined benefit pensions, 401(k), 403(b), profit sharing and other retirement plan types.
Prepare and review participant communications, including summary plan descriptions.
Research applicable law and regulations, summarize findings for attorneys, and assist in filings (e.g., IRS determination letters, correction program submissions to IRS and DOL).
Serve as a resource on plan operation, compliance, and correction issues, responding to internal and client inquiries.
Collaborate with attorneys, business professionals and administrative staff, and assist with other related tasks as needed.
Must Haves as the Paralegal – Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation:
At least 5 years of hands on experience working with retirement plans (defined benefit, defined contribution, profit sharing).
Strong organizational and communication skills, with a positive, high energy mindset and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook (and ideally PowerPoint), comfortable with internal software, internet research, spreadsheets and databases.
Ability to interpret and apply legal concepts in employee benefits/ERISA matters, manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
Attention to detail, strong time management skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Nice to Haves as the Paralegal – Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation:
Paralegal certification or college degree in a relevant discipline (though significant relevant experience may substitute).
Experience with participant communications, correction programs (e.g., VCP/EPCRS), IRS/DOL filings and pension/401(k) plan operations.
Familiarity with ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code’s qualification rules, and related fiduciary matters.
Prior experience in a law firm environment or professional services setting supporting an employee benefits or executive compensation practice.
