True North Emergency Equipment is currently seeking an experienced Service Manager (Fire Equipment) to join us in our mission to ensure the safety and reliability of our fire trucks serving communities nationwide. This position is based out of our Hillsboro, Oregon location and a relocation allowance will be offered.
Overview:
The Service Manager will be a hands-on, organized and engaged leader who is responsible for providing guidance and direction to the Service team, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Service Department and developing and maintaining strong customer relationships to support continued Service growth in the region. The ideal candidate will be someone that has several years experience working on fire apparatus equipment and understands the urgency of maintaining and servicing a fleet of fire trucks.

True North Emergency Equipment is a servicing distributor for customers in need of Emergency Response Vehicles & Equipment. True North serves the Pacific Northwest & Alaska regions. Clients include municipal and private, professional and volunteer, rural and urban, we have the products to keep our clients moving.
Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm (onsite)
Salary: from $100,000 per annum plus a competitive benefits package upon successful completion of the probationary period.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee daily operations to ensure efficiency and effectiveness. Implement processes and systems to improve productivity and service quality.
- Assist with financial goals and operational/KPI objectives for the department and meet them.
- Manage the budget, monitor expenses, and analyze financial performance to ensure profitability.
- Hire, train, and manage employees, including technicians and sales staff. Schedule staff to cover business hours adequately while managing labor costs.
- Coordinate with Service Writer on staff schedules for all department employees.
- Attend manager meetings and hold monthly department meetings.
- Monitor technicians’ monthly productivity reports and corresponding payroll records and review with employee.
- Monitor and manage Work Order paper flow process in the department, ensure Work Orders are invoiced within 48 hours of job completion.
- Monitor and follow up on parts orders with the parts manager to ensure availability.
- Develop and implement a marketing plan which promotes new and repeat business.
- Provide fair estimates on costs and time required for profitable repairs and maintenance.
- In conjunction with Service Writer, establish and maintain 72-hour follow-up with all customers to confirm customer satisfaction with the parts and service experience.
- Oversee inventory levels, order parts and supplies, as needed, and manage relationships with suppliers.
- Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements. Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by enforcing safety standards and protocols.
- Implement and monitor quality control measures to ensure all services meet or exceed customer expectations and industry standards.
- Identify training needs and opportunities for staff development.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with technical schools.
SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:
- 5 years’ experience as a Service Manager in the field of Heavy, Industrial or Emergency equipment.
- 5 years Fire apparatus service experience.
- High school diploma required; Technical College Certificate/Degree preferred.
- Strong mechanical expertise with knowledge of equipment repair processes.
- Strong leadership and people management skills, excellent customer service skills, effective communication and negotiation skills, and proficiency in financial management.
- Comprehensive and solid understanding of heavy equipment repair services.
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification or other relevant industry certifications a plus.
- Ability to motivate, coach and support teams to drive desired results.
- Ability to foster team-work and champion company values.
- Extremely organized and proactive.
- Proficient with repair order programs and MS Office (Outlook, Excel).
- Experience with purchasing systems and CRM software is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Full understanding of all relevant safety and compliance regulations, policies, and generally accepted work practices relating to shop operations.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required.
- Excellent command of the English language both written and verbal.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check.
