Our Swim Instructors lead fun and engaging swim lessons for participants of all ages and skill levels, with a focus on water safety and skill development. Job duties and responsibilities as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the typical tasks performed. Incumbents may not perform all the listed duties and/or may be required to perform related duties as needed.- Plans, organizes, and instructs swim lessons and aquatic safety programs in accordance with established curriculum and standards
- Assesses participant swimming abilities and adjusts instruction to meet individual and class needs
- Monitors activities in and around the pool area to ensure a safe environment for participants and spectators
- Explains and enforces pool rules, safety standards, and Town policies to prevent accidents and injuries
- Demonstrates and instructs proper swimming strokes, techniques, and water safety procedures
- Provides feedback and encouragement to participants to support skill development and confidence
- Ensures safety of class participants, administers first aid, CPR, and AED as needed in emergency situations
- Assists in maintaining equipment, supplies, and instructional materials; ensures teaching aids are in proper working condition
- Maintains accurate attendance records, lesson progress reports, and class evaluations
- Participates in required training sessions and maintains all necessary certifications
- Assists with Town aquatics programs, special events, and community outreach activities as needed
- Provides high-quality customer service and communicates effectively with parents, guardians, and participants
- Performs related duties as assigned
Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
- Jeff Ellis Swimming (JES) Swim Lesson Instructor certification is required within 30 days of hire and maintained throughout employment
- Principles and techniques of swimming instruction and aquatic education
- Water safety rules, lifeguarding practices, and emergency response procedures
- Instructional methods and strategies for various age groups and ability levels
- Operational characteristics of aquatic safety and instructional equipment
- Principles and practices for providing a high level of customer service
- Modern office practices, methods, and computer equipment and applications
- Plan, organize, and conduct swimming instruction and water safety programs
- Evaluate participant progress and adapt instruction to meet individual needs
- Maintain safety and order in a crowded and noisy pool environment
- React quickly and effectively to swimmer distress or medical emergencies
- Administer first aid, CPR, and AED as needed
- Maintain facilities, equipment, and instructional materials in a clean, safe, and functional condition
- Perform work in an efficient, effective, and timely manner
- Communicate clearly and concisely in English, both orally and in writing
- Establish, maintain, and foster positive and cooperative working relationships with participants, parents, coworkers, and the public
