The Swim Coach is responsible for leading and developing the Tritons Swim Team, providing expert instruction, and fostering a positive, competitive environment. This role includes planning practices, mentoring swimmers, and guiding assistant coaches to ensure skill development and team success. Ideal candidates are experienced, motivated, and passionate about coaching, inspiring athletes to achieve their personal and team goals.

JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, is responsible for providing program management and oversight of the Town of Trophy Club’s competitive swim team program. The purpose of this position is to provide a robust swim team program to a diverse community while fostering an environment focused on learning and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle through the sport of swimming.  

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Job duties and responsibilities as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the typical tasks performed.  Incumbents may not perform all the listed duties and/or may be required to perform related duties as needed.
  • Designs, organizes, and directs the instructional program for the age group swim team activities
  • Ensures the safety of all team members according to facility policies and procedures
  • Maintains current team records
  • Creates workout plans for participants 
  • Instructs participants during scheduled workouts
  • Hosts a parent information meeting prior to the start of season
  • Facilitates coaches’ meetings as necessary
  • Assists with hosting all T.A.A.F. swim meets hosted in the Town of Trophy Club
  • Regularly communicates with participants and parents through email, Facebook, and other means required by the Recreation Superintendent
  • Implements and promotes special aquatic events and activities associated with the swim team activities, including scheduling and coordinating practice sessions, fundraising, team building events, and competitions with other teams
  • Manages swim meet information and provides team with timely updates including but not limited to; meet results, meet information, volunteer information, team building dates, and uniform information
  • Enforces pool rules, regulations, and standards of safety within Town policies 
  • Trains and evaluates work of Assistant Swim Coaches
  • Maintains a level of training necessary to meet established standards and evaluate participants
  • Responds to questions and inquiries from the general public in a professional manner
  • Accompanies team at scheduled competitive events 
  • Attends T.A.A.F. Summer Games or provides a proxy approved by the Town
  • Assists in hosting a circuit meet at the Town’s Community Pool
  • Assists with Town special events as needed
  • Performs related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Requirements:
Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
  • High School Diploma or GED, is required 
  • Two or more years of swim coaching experience
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard certification is required at time of hire and maintained throughout employment
Knowledge of:
  • Competitive swimming skills and techniques; swim meet rules and regulations
  • Principles of leadership in an aquatics environment
  • Principles and practices of effective swimming techniques, goals, and objectives    
  • Principles and techniques of all lifeguarding skills
  • Organization and operation of the aquatics facilities, including maintenance, occupational hazards, and standard safety practices
  • Relevant laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Operational characteristics of water rescue safety equipment and devices
  • Principles and practices for providing high level of customer service
  • Principles and practices of recordkeeping
  • Swim Meet Management software
  • Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (T.A.A.F.) procedures
  • Modern office practices, methods, and computer equipment and applications related to the work
Ability to: 
  • Monitor and enforce relevant law, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Administer first aid, CPR, and AED as needed
  • Maintain order and safety in a crowded and noisy environment
  • Maintain facilities and equipment in a clean, safe, and secure manner
  • Perform work in an efficient, effective, safe, and timely manner
  • Demonstrate strong customer service skills and establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships
  • Independently organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, and follow up on assignments
  • Use English effectively to communicate in person, over the telephone, and in writing
  • Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
WORK ENVIRONMENT 
Work is primarily performed within a public swimming pool environment, where stamina is needed to perform moderate to heavy lifting of pool equipment and furniture or children and adults who may require removal from the pool, and to stay in the pool for prolonged periods.  Must possess the mobility to stand, stoop, kneel, reach, bend, climb, push and pull materials and equipment, and swim while wearing an appropriate uniform with protective equipment.  Vision and hearing must be sufficient to see and hear adults and children in crowded and noisy conditions and/or situations.  Must also possess: the mobility to work in an office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or by using a telephone and radio. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or to operate safety equipment. Must possess the ability to swim distances and dive to pool depths, as determined by testing/certification authorities, and to lift 150 pounds or heavier weights with assistance and/or the use of proper equipment.  Incumbents may be assigned an irregular work schedule, including weekends, early mornings, evenings, and holidays.
