Description:
POSITION PURPOSE
- Lab Manager for the Core Lab and Blood Bank at Trinity Health Livonia supporting a team of over 40 colleagues.
- Responsible for the supervision of the Laboratory personnel engaged in the conduct of routine and/or specialized tests and analyses. Provides a general level of technical and managerial direction to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of services provided by the assigned group, resolve day-to-day problems within the laboratory, ensure or conduct the necessary on-the-job and formal training of subordinates and manages the utilization of resources.
- Full-time benefited position scheduled 40 hours per week on-site at Trinity Health Livonia.
- EDUCATION: Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, or university in Medical Technology, Histotechnology or equivalent work experience, or related science required, depending on section(s) to which assigned.
- CERTIFICATION: Medical Technologist (MT)/Histotechnologist (HT) – ASCP, or NCLS certification preferred.
- EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of progressively more responsible experience as a Medical, or Histo Technologist, one or two years in a leadership role required.
- Leads and manages laboratory staff, including hiring recommendations, training, competency assessment, scheduling, performance evaluation, discipline, and payroll verification.
- Oversees daily laboratory operations to ensure accurate, timely testing, appropriate test utilization, and high-quality patient care aligned with age-specific, developmental, and cultural needs.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory, safety, and accreditation standards; maintains competency, quality control, proficiency testing, and preventive maintenance programs.
- Manages budgets, staffing models, inventory, and vendor utilization to meet financial targets through cost containment and operational efficiencies.
- Provides technical guidance, troubleshooting, and interdepartmental coordination to resolve operational and procedural issues.
- Evaluates and implements new methodologies, technologies, and process improvements; recommends changes to enhance laboratory performance.
- Assists in development and maintenance of quality control documentation, procedures, and manuals.
- Supports laboratory marketing initiatives through a service-focused approach and collaboration with internal stakeholders.
- Participates in education, professional development, and in-service training to remain current with advances in laboratory practice.
- Performs additional duties as assigned in support of laboratory and organizational goals.
