What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator position at Trident Maritime Systems-Heavy Equipment Group?
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY: Prepare cost estimates in support of customer’s request for quotes and bid proposals.
MAJOR DUTIES:
- Interface with Sr. Estimators, Program Managers, Sales, Purchasing, and Engineering as required to determine the scope of material and labor needed in support of an estimate.
- Consult with Engineering and Manufacturing to determine process capability, manufacturing methods, and make vs. buy decisions.
- Interface with manufacturing personnel to estimate the cost of the manufacturing processing including work centers to be utilized, required tools and their costs, set up time, and man-hour estimates including application of efficiencies and learning curve theory.
- Quantify estimated material, direct labor, and application of indirect rates to formulate an overall estimated cost.
- Participate in Bid/No Bid decisions after review of bid requests to determine whether job is suitable for current capabilities.
- Research potential sources of supplies.
- Prepare Requests for Quotes to obtain material and component pricing.
- Develop and maintain an estimating file system for all estimates.
- Attend cost and price reviews and present cost estimates and risk assessment to management team for utilization in the development of pricing strategies.
- Consult with accounting department to assure that current labor and overhead rates are used
- Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION PREFERRED/SPECIAL NOTES:
Associate's degree in related field, Bachelor’s degree Strongly Preferred
EXPERIENCE PREFERRED/SPECIAL NOTES:
3-8 Years of experience in Manufacturing, Cost Estimating, Purchasing or related field
Must have a strong Communications, Analytical and Computer Skills
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Job often requires long hours of sitting/computer usage
