The Business Analyst will partner closely with Commercial Underwriting teams to capture, analyze, and document business requirements that support underwriting workflows, systems, and regulatory needs. This position will translate complex underwriting processes into clear documentation that enables effective technology delivery and modernization efforts.
Responsibilities
- Partner with commercial underwriters and Underwriting Leadership to understand current and future underwriting workflows.
- Support specialty lines including Habitational General Liability, Management Liability, and Excess Casualty.
- Lead requirements gathering through interviews, workshops, and working sessions.
- Produce detailed business requirements documents that outline scope, objectives, assumptions, and constraints.
- Document functional requirements, non-functional requirements, data needs, and business rules.
- Translate underwriting decision logic, risk assessment, and pricing concepts into structured requirements.
- Maintain the requirements traceability matrix throughout design, development, and testing including UAT.
- Serve as the primary liaison between Underwriting stakeholders and technology teams.
- Review solution designs to ensure alignment with documented requirements.
- Support UAT planning, execution, and validation.
- Identify process gaps and opportunities for workflow optimization and automation.
- Manage requirement changes and communicate impacts to stakeholders.
- 5 or more years of experience as a business Analyst
- 3 or more years supporting Commercial Underwriting teams.
- In-depth knowledge of Commercial Lines Underwriting practices and workflows.
- Experience with Underwriting System implementations or modernization initiatives.
- Proven experience authoring detailed business requirements documents.
- Ability to translate underwriting concepts into technical and functional requirements
- Strong written, verbal, and stakeholder facilitation skills.
- Ability to work independently with business and technical teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
- Ability to work onsite three days per week in New Jersey.
