What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pavement Construction Crew Labor Specialist position at Tri State Paving and Sealcoating?
Sunup to cleanup—you arrive ready to build smooth, safe roadways. You gather rakes, lutes, shovels, and spray cans of release agent, load up the tool truck, and head to the site. Once there, you help establish proper traffic control, lay out the day’s work with the foreman, and keep the operation moving—from the first launch pad for the paver to the final clean sweep.
What You’ll Tackle- Stage tools and materials for the crew: rakes, lutes, shovels, and spray cans of release agents.
- Assist with setting up traffic control to protect the work zone.
- Support the paving operation by delivering water to rollers, plate compactors, the power broom, and other machines as needed.
- Partner with the foreman to measure and line out the project for the day.
- Spot and guide equipment operators safely within the work zone.
- Build launch pads at the start of each pull for the pavers.
- Place hot mix by the shovelful and lute it into a smooth, consistent mat.
- Assist the screed operator—monitor the head of material, feed mix to the end gate, and pull mix to the end gate with a shovel when necessary.
- Correct imperfections in the mat directly behind the screed.
- Perform saw cuts in concrete and asphalt as directed.
You’ll work hands-on with hand and power tools, including air hammers and plate compactors, and a variety of other equipment and instruments. You may also be asked to drive utility trucks and other moving equipment.
Safety, Quality, and Care of Equipment- Keep the job and excavation areas orderly and clean throughout the shift.
- Maintain trucks—exterior, cab, windows, and mirrors—so they’re clean and ready.
- Clean equipment, tools, and spray cans; fill tanks at shift end and return all tools/materials to the tool truck.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures; wear required PPE at all times and use the right tool for each task.
- Report any tool or equipment issues immediately to the foreman or supervisor.
- Bring customer concerns to management promptly and professionally.
- Pitch in with other duties as required or assigned.
