Job Title: Junior Varsity or Assistant Coach
Reports to: Head High School Coach and Activities Director
Status: Annual contract
Job Summary: This position is responsible for coaching and providing direction to high school student athletes so that they achieve a high level of skill as well as an appreciation for sportsmanship and teamwork.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follow and enforce all rules of the Treynor Community School District, the Western Iowa Conference, state and national associations as they pertain to the respective sport and activity.
- Maintain appropriate certifications/authorizations as required, including CPR, Mandatory Reporter, and Concussion Management.
- Serve as a model and mentor in both the sport and life.
- Professionally represent the school and the district in interactions with students, parents, community, and staff.
- Build positive relationships with all members of the team, with coaches and activity director in the athletic program, with officials in the games, with teachers and staff in the district, and with supporters in the community, always striving to resolve conflict in a professional manner.
- Cooperate with the administration, activity director, fellow coaches and athletes to promote the best interest and achievement of the entire sport and athletic program.
- Support and collaborate with the head coach in conducting the program of the particular activity/sport and total athletic program of the school district.
- Assume responsibility for student athletes, ensuring a certified coach is present at all practices and games and until all participants are dressed and have left the building. Secure all gates, dressing rooms, locker and gymnasium facilities before leaving the area.
- Accompany and supervise the team to and from all contests.
- Oversee the safety conditions and maintenance of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present.
- Ensure that appropriate rules and regulations regarding the conduct and eligibility for student-athletes are explained and followed by the student-athletes.
- Plan, schedule, and supervise a regular program of coaching and practice sessions in season.
- Coach individual and positional participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport/activity involved.
- Develop and implement game strategy and position assignments.
- Plan and direct the conditioning, training and performance of the student athletes.
- Monitor and maintain discipline and conduct of student athletes to support the image and reputation of the athletes, the athletic program, and the Treynor Community School District. Oversee the penalties for breach of standards by individual athletes.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:
- Coaching: Experienced club or high school coaching is preferred but not required.
- Documentation:
○ Resume/Vita must be accompanied by a cover letter and completed Treynor Community School District Application to be considered for the position
○ Coaching certification/authorization
○ Mandatory Reporter (every 5 years), CPR (every other year), Concussion Management Certificate (annually)
