Job Title: Head Boys Soccer Coach 

 

Reports to: Activities Director 

 

Status: Annual Contract 

 

Job Summary:   This position is responsible for coaching and providing direction to high school student athletes so that they achieve a high level of skill as well as an appreciation for sportsmanship and teamwork. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

 

  1. Follow and enforce all rules of the District, conference, state and national associations as they pertain to the respective sport and activity. 
  2. Maintain appropriate certifications/authorizations as required, including CPR, Mandatory Reporter, and Concussion Management. 
  3. Serve as a model and mentor in both the sport and life. 
  4. Professionally represent the school and the district in interactions with students, parents, community, and staff. 
  5. Build positive relationships with all members of the team, with coaches and activity director in the athletic program, with officials in the games, with teachers and staff in the district, and with supporters in the community, always striving to resolve conflict in a professional manner. 
  6. Obtain completed and signed concussion form, insurance form and physical examination form prior to beginning practice. 
  7. Report and secure approval from the activity director of all adults (e.g., volunteer coaches) associated with the athletic program. 
  8. Cooperate with the administration, activity director, fellow coaches and athletes to promote the best interest and achievement of the entire sport and athletic program. 
  9. Conform to the school district’s policy in ordering equipment and supplies for the sport/activity involved. 
  10. Submit and update athletic rosters to the activity director in a timely manner established by the director. 
  11. Assume responsibility for student athletes, ensuring a certified coach is present at all practices and games and until all participants are dressed and have left the building. Secure all gates, dressing rooms, locker and gymnasium facilities before leaving the area. 
  12. Accompany and supervise the team to and from all contests. 
  13. Conform to district and state policies in handling injuries, completing the district’s injury report within 24 hours for any student injured even if the athlete did not see a physician. 
  14. Oversee the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned sport is conducted at all times that students are present. 
  15. Use proper collection, care, and storage of all equipment and uniforms during athletic season. Prepare and deliver a complete inventory of all equipment to the activity director at the conclusion of the season. 
  16. Recommend purchase of equipment, supplies and uniforms as appropriate. 
  17. Attend meetings when scheduled by the activity director, unless excused by him/her.
  18. Attend booster meetings when appropriate and when not in conflict with coaching assignment. 
  19. Ensure that appropriate rules and regulations regarding the conduct and eligibility of athletic activities are explained and followed. 
  20. Plan, schedule, and supervise a regular program of coaching and practice sessions in season. 
  21. Coach individual and positional participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport/activity involved. 
  22. Develop and implement game strategy and position assignments. 
  23. Plan and direct the conditioning, training and performance of the student athletes. 
  24. Consult with the activity director before coordinating and scheduling all off-season activities (e.g., open gym, weight lifting, camps), ensuring supervision at all times and ensuring that these activities are within the rules of the Iowa High School Athletic Association and/or the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. 
  25. Establish performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition in the sport. 
  26. Schedule with the activity director the use of facilities beyond normal practice times and games, and ensuring supervision at all time.
  27. Meet with assistant coach(es) to coordinate coaching strategies/methods at different levels; assign duties to all assistant coaches and assist the activity director in evaluating the performance of assistant coaches. 
  28. Monitor and maintain discipline and conduct of student athletes to support the image and reputation of the athletes, the athletic program, and the Treynor Community School District. Oversee the penalties for breach of standards by individual athletes. 
  29. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements: 

 

  • Coaching: Experienced club or high school varsity coaching is preferred but not required. 

 

  • Documentation: 

○ Resume/Vita must be accompanied by a cover letter and completed Treynor Community School District Application to be considered for the position 

○ Coaching certification/authorization 

○ Mandatory Reporter (every 5 years), CPR (every other year), Concussion Management Certificate (annually)

○ Ability to demonstrate proper techniques and skills needed for athletic participation.

  • Days of service as specified in contract language.
