Associate Attorney

Role Description

We are seeking an Insurance Coverage and Litigation Attorney to join our San Francisco, California office. Our dynamic Insurance Services Practice Group and Litigation Practice Groups are known for their comprehensive approach to handling matters related to complex insurance claims analysis and representing clients in high-stakes litigation cases.

The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years of insurance coverage and/or litigation experience. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with senior attorneys and clients on complex insurance coverage issues and/or in the defense of litigated matters across multiple lines of insurance.

This position is hybrid in our San Francisco Bay Area, California office in Walnut Creek.

Essential job duties include:

• Analyzing and interpreting insurance policies, coverage issues, and claims.
• Drafting coverage opinions, legal memoranda and briefs, and advising clients on insurance coverage matters.
• Conducting legal research and preparing memoranda on coverage and litigation matters.
• Collaborating with senior attorneys and clients to develop case strategies.
• Handling all phases of litigation, including pleadings, discovery, motion practice, depositions, and trial preparation.
• Preparing and responding to written discovery.
• Representing clients in coverage disputes.
• Defending cases in civil litigation and in binding arbitration proceedings in both state and federal court.
• Preparing comprehensive written reports to insurance carriers and/or self-insured entities.
• Attending court hearings and oral arguments both remotely and in-person.
• Taking and defending party, witness, and/or expert depositions.
• Preparing for and mediating cases and/or settlement conferences.

Qualifications

• Active bar license in California
• 2-5 years of insurance coverage experience for matters both in and out of litigation and/or civil litigation experience in either state or federal court.
• Experience with trial preparation
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Exceptional writing, organizational, and advocacy skills
