Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive intake assessments to evaluate clients’ substance use history, mental health status, and treatment needs
- Develop personalized treatment plans utilizing evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and behavioral management techniques
- Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions focused on addiction recovery, mental health support, and relapse prevention
- Implement crisis intervention strategies to support clients experiencing acute distress or emergencies
- Document all patient interactions accurately in medical records while adhering to HIPAA regulations and maintaining confidentiality
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including social workers, medical staff, and case managers to coordinate care plans
- Provide education on addiction medicine, mental health issues, and coping skills to clients and their families
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred
- Valid certification or licensure as an addiction counselor or clinical counselor (e.g., CADC, LCSW)
- Proven experience in behavioral health settings with a focus on substance use disorder treatment
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), and medical documentation standards
- Familiarity with crisis management techniques, home & community care practices, and hospital-based care environments
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to conduct diagnostic evaluations and patient assessments effectively
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism while demonstrating empathy and active listening skills
