Summary
The Tax Manager will be responsible for overseeing tax preparation, review, planning, and compliance activities for individual, trust, estate, and gift tax clients. This role combines technical tax expertise with client-facing responsibilities and requires the ability to provide strategic tax guidance, resolve complex tax matters, and partner with advisory teams to develop tax-efficient financial strategies.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and review individual, trust, estate, and gift tax returns while ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable regulations
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to tax staff and support quality review processes
- Analyze client transactions and financial situations to determine federal, state, and local tax filing requirements
- Develop tax projections, planning analyses, and strategic recommendations to minimize tax liabilities
- Research complex tax matters and provide solutions to clients and internal stakeholders
- Review and respond to IRS, state, and local tax authority notices and correspondence
- Collaborate with financial advisors and planning professionals to integrate tax strategies into broader financial plans
- Participate in client meetings and serve as a trusted advisor on tax-related matters
- Monitor tax law and regulatory changes and communicate potential impacts to clients and leadership
- Manage multiple client engagements simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining high service standards
- Support process improvements, workflow efficiencies, and best practices within the tax function
- Assist with special projects and other tax-related initiatives as needed
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
- Active CPA license required
- Minimum of 6 years of progressive tax preparation and review experience
- Strong experience with individual, trust, estate, and gift tax returns
- Expertise in tax planning, compliance, and tax research
- Experience preparing and reviewing Form 1041 Trust & Estate Returns and Form 709 Gift Tax Returns
- Multi-state tax preparation and filing experience preferred
- Strong understanding of federal, state, and local tax regulations
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with tax software platforms
- Experience with Lacerte or similar tax preparation software preferred
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Strong communication, client service, and relationship management abilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and client engagements in a fast-paced environment
