Role Description The PLC Programmer role at TranTek Automation is a full-time, on-site position located in Traverse City, MI. This role focuses on designing, programming, testing, and commissioning PLC-based control systems for automated equipment and integrated production lines. Day-to-day responsibilities typically include developing control logic and HMI interfaces, troubleshooting and debugging programs, and optimizing system performance to meet project requirements and customer specifications. The PLC Programmer works closely with mechanical, electrical, and controls engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of hardware and software. Additional activities include preparing technical documentation, supporting installation and startup at customer facilities, and providing ongoing technical support for deployed systems.
Qualifications
- Strong PLC programming skills with experience in industrial control systems (Allen Bradley Compact and Contrologix, Guardlogix).
- Proficiency with HMI configuration and integration with PLCs and industrial networks.
- Solid understanding of industrial automation, robotics, sensors, drives, and safety circuits.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, control panel layouts, and mechanical drawings.
- Experience in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving control system issues in a manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate in cross-functional project teams.
- Organizational skills to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate technical documentation.
- Willingness to work on-site in Traverse City, MI, with occasional travel to customer locations for installation and support.
