Job Overview
The Project Engineer II will be responsible for supporting a variety of Economic Development projects and Electric Distribution projects, including major substation rebuilds. This role is hybrid with 3 days per week onsite in Jackson, MI, with remote flexibility on Wednesdays and Fridays. Travel to job sites or key team meetings may be required.
The Project Engineer II will collaborate with both internal and external teams to manage complex and strategic engineering projects. As a Lead Project Engineer, the incumbent will coordinate the technical activities, ensuring accuracy and quality from project conception to completion.
Key Responsibilities
- Engineering Coordination: Work with internal and external engineering teams, vendors, fabricators, and contractors to meet project requirements.
- Project Planning & Scheduling: Prepare, schedule, coordinate, and monitor assigned engineering projects. Ensure all project deliverables are met on time.
- Team Leadership: Lead engineering tasks and deliverables related to project planning, design, quality, testing, and execution. Mentor team members and assign responsibilities.
- Compliance Monitoring: Ensure compliance with applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards, and specifications.
- Support to Project Managers: Provide technical assistance and support to project managers and team members, ensuring smooth project execution.
- Performance Tracking: Support the Agile project delivery cadence by balancing team performance with project deadlines. Take corrective actions where necessary.
- Review Engineering Deliverables: Review engineering deliverables and initiate corrective actions as needed.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, or an Engineering degree from a non-ABET-accredited program with a Professional Engineering (PE) license.
- 5-7 years of experience as a Project Engineer, with a minimum of 5 years serving as a program/project engineer on complex projects.
- Experience in Electric Distribution projects is preferred but not required.
- Strong knowledge of design and visualization software (e.g., AutoCAD).
- Familiarity with rules, regulations, and best practices in engineering.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office with the ability to learn new software quickly.
- Experience coordinating internal and external engineering disciplines.
- Familiarity with Project Management Information Systems (PMIS), such as Unifier and Document Control tools like ProjectWise, is a plus.
- Experience in contract management and engineering deliverables management is preferred.
Additional Skills & Knowledge
- Knowledge of Project Management principles and skills is a plus.
- Electrical Engineering background is preferred.
- Experience with managing engineering contracts and deliverables is an asset.
