Position: EPC Cost Estimator III
Location: Remote (9 AM – 3 PM EST)
Duration: 12 Months Contract (High potential for extension)
About the Role
You’ll be part of the Electrical Estimating Group, responsible for developing cost estimates across electric systems, including HVD and LVD substation projects.
This team handles a wide range of projects—from $10K pole replacements to multi-billion-dollar substation programs—and produces ~700 estimates annually (70% conceptual / 30% detailed).
You’ll collaborate closely with engineering, planning, and project teams while contributing to long-term financial forecasting (up to 2040).
Key Responsibilities
- Develop conceptual and detailed cost estimates for utility and substation projects
- Collaborate with engineering, planning, and project teams (high interaction environment)
- Participate in project & departmental meetings
- Support long-term financial planning and forecasting
- Maintain and enhance cost templates, estimating tools, and data structures
- Manage multiple estimates in a high-volume environment
Required Skills
- Self-starter with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities
- Experience in construction and/or electrical utility estimating (preferred)
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Experience with SAP
- Familiarity with estimating tools (WinEst or similar; flexible as tools are evolving)
Nice to Have
- Exposure to Power BI and/or Power Apps for tracking and reporting
- Experience working in utility or infrastructure projects
Project Scope
- Project sizes range from $10K to multi-billion-dollar initiatives
- Typical substation projects: $2M – $7M
- Work within a lean team of 3 estimators managing ~700 estimates/year
