About the Role
Are you passionate about helping others and creating a safe, stable, and supportive environment? The Psychological Center is hiring a Shelter Specialist to join our Emergency Shelter team. This role is essential in maintaining the safety, structure, and daily operations of our 24/7 shelter program that provides critical support to individuals in crisis.
Responsibilities
- Maintain guest safety by performing security checks at least every 30 minutes.
- Ensure accurate documentation of guest activities, including arrivals and departures.
- Enforce shelter policies and respond appropriately to behavioral or safety issues.
- Make emergency calls (911) and notify leadership when necessary.
- Stay awake, alert, and accessible to residents during each shift.
- Assist with meal preparation and ensure dietary needs are met.
- Document detailed log notes, incident reports, and crisis reports.
- Support residents in developing daily living skills, recreation, and social engagement.
- Communicate respectfully with residents, staff, and community partners.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold residents’ rights at all times.
- Keep shelter spaces clean, organized, and audit-ready.
- Assist in maintaining inventory of shelter supplies and report damages or losses.
- Attend required staff meetings and training sessions.
- Act as a positive role model, reflecting TPC’s mission, values, and professionalism.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED (required).
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a residential or human services setting (preferred).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to follow policies, licensing standards, and safety procedures.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, email).
- Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and access to a vehicle.
