Description:
This classification is responsible for planning, scheduling, organizing and conducting a wide variety of wellness programs for employees and their family members. This classification is responsible for creating and fostering a culture of health and wellness throughout the Town of Smyrna. Duties and responsibilities include working with diverse audiences with different health and fitness goals to develop, promote, and lead wellness programs and activities. Reports to the Human Resources Director.
Coordinator Duties
Develops a comprehensive, challenging, measurable, and progressive annual Health and Wellness plan for all employees across all departments.
Cultivate positive interest in the Town's Health and Wellness program.
Promotes, coordinates, and manages the Town's Health and Wellness programs to include appropriate incentives for participation.
Creates marketing for wellness initiatives to promote participation by employees and dependents.
Encourages employees to create and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Schedules, trains, supervises, and evaluates the performance of assigned staff (Wellness Specialist).
Works closely with both the Town's health insurance carrier as well as the Town's onsite health center vendor to leverage wellness opportunities, including "brown bag" educational sessions, Tobacco cessation programs, additional funding for Town-developed programs, and access to free programs from vendors.
Creates and maintains records and databases of participation, progress, and program outcomes to support the Health and Wellness program.
Oversees the Health Risk Assessment incentive program in conjunction with our on-site health center vendor.
Organizes and coordinates the Town's Health and Benefits Fair periodically (every 2 years).
Establishes and maintains beneficial relationships with health, wellness, and fitness providers to offer discounted products and services to the Town.
Coordinates the on-site health center, including approving invoices, updating eligibility lists, monitoring utilization, and serving as the Town's liaison with health center staff.
Continually works to develop and improve the Health and Wellness program to provide superior health and wellness education, counseling, and fitness solutions.
Stays current on industry trends, certifications, and best practices in health and wellness
Collaborates with leadership and HR to align wellness initiatives with organizational goals
Assesses employee needs and interests to tailor wellness offerings and increase engagement
Monitors and evaluates program effectiveness, making adjustments as needed
Ensures all fitness activities comply with safety standards and best practices
Employee Training & Coaching
Performs health coaching sessions with employees and dependents to help them achieve health and wellness goals that support behavior change, goal setting, and accountability.
Leads active sessions both in and out of the office for employees on various exercise regimens, including but not limited to active stretching, yoga, cardio, and strength training.
Designs, facilitates, and leads educational sessions on nutrition, physical activity, and other key Health and Wellness initiatives.
Design and deliver personalized fitness programs for employees based on individual goals, fitness levels, and health considerations.
Conduct one-on-one personal training sessions, ensuring proper technique, safety, and progress tracking
Plan, coordinate, and lead group fitness classes (e.g., strength training, cardio, flexibility, mindfulness, etc.)
Develop and implement wellness programs focused on topics such as nutrition, stress management, mental health, and work-life balance
Educate employees through workshops, seminars, and informational materials on overall wellness topics
Facility Maintenance
Oversees the upkeep and maintenance of the Town's employee Fitness Center in City Hall, including scheduling preventative maintenance, replacement, and repair of equipment, and the purchase of new items.
Routinely ensures facilities are clean, organized, and safe for users.
Reviews security video to ensure compliance with standards and safety regulations.
Other Duties & Responsibilities
Must be willing to work some afternoons or evenings for programs scheduled after normal business hours.
Promotes a teamwork environment and assists co-workers when necessary
Professionally conducts behavior at all times to reflect positively on other staff members and customers' perception of the town facility
Performs other duties as assigned by the Human Resources Director
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must possess a valid Tennessee Driver's License
- A Bachelor's Degree with an emphasis in Physical Education, Health Education and Promotion, Nutrition, or other health-related field.
- A certification in one or more of the following: Personal Trainer, Yoga, Health Coach, Fitness Instructor, or Fitness Nutrition.
- Or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position
The candidate should also have the following abilities:
