What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian position at Town of Queen Creek?
We are looking to hire 1 full-time individual to work primarily in the Aquatic Center. You will work 8 hours per day, 5 days per week with two days off in a row. As a full-time employee, you are eligible for benefits, earned vacation and sick time, employee wellness programs, and more.
JOB CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY
Positions assigned to this class are responsible for performing a variety of tasks in the custodial care and maintenance of community buildings.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is an entry level maintenance/trades classification in the maintenance and operations job family where basic tasks and assignments requiring little or no previous training or experience are performed. This is the first classification in a career progression or the terminal level for positions with very basic and/or limited duties. Work is designed to provide initial experience and training under direct supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The following are intended to describe core work functions of this classification. While the level and broad nature of essential duties may not change, specific work tasks will vary over time depending on the Town’s needs.
- Maintains the cleanliness of Town facilities and grounds.
- Disposes of waste.
- Sweep, vacuum, mop, dust, shampoo, steam clean, strip, wax, polish, and buff floors, carpets, and furniture, etc.
- Polishes furniture and sanitizes surfaces.
- Cleans windows.
- Changes light bulbs and fluorescent tubes.
- Maintains custodial equipment and inventory.
- Cleans and sanitizes restrooms and replenishes supplies.
- Reports any damaged or missing equipment or other abnormalities discovered.
- Moves and sets up furniture.
- Prepares records and/or logs of completed work.
- Performs other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (at job entry)
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED; or an equivalent combination of directly related education and experience.
LICENSING/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Driver’s License;
- Maintain all certifications/licenses required at job entry.
KNOWLEDGE
- Working knowledge of equipment, materials, supplies and safe practices used in the proper cleaning of building and in grounds maintenance;
- Working knowledge of equipment and supplies used to do minor repairs;
- Some knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.
SKILLS
- Estimating time and material requirements of work projects;
- Use of the following: floor buffer, steam cleaner, carpet cleaner, vacuum, mop, broom, dusting equipment, and chemical cleaner and detergents;
- Operating applicable tools and equipment in a safe manner;
- Working independently to complete daily activities according to work schedule;
- Lifting heavy objects;
- Understanding and carrying out written and verbal instructions;
- Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, and other interested parties sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Positions that have been assigned to law enforcement buildings have been identified as safety-sensitive positions by Human Resources, per State and/or Federal Law. Upon conditional offer of employment, the candidate selected will be required to pass a background investigation through the Town of Queen Creek’s Police Department, the Arizona Department of Public Safety, and Federal Bureau of Investigation prior to commencing employment with the Town.
