About the Role
The Street Maintenance Technician II performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled manual labor tasks and operates light to medium equipment within the Streets Section of the Public Services Department. This role supports the construction, maintenance, and repair of Town streets, sidewalks, and related infrastructure to ensure safe and efficient transportation systems for the community.

Work involves tasks such as asphalt paving, concrete finishing, masonry, landscaping, stormwater system maintenance, and traffic control. Employees may operate dump trucks, loaders, and other equipment, and assist with snow and ice control operations. The position requires working outdoors in varying weather conditions and responding to after-hours call-backs as needed.

Work is performed under regular supervision and is evaluated through observation and inspection to ensure adherence to safety practices, instructions, and established standards. Employees are subject to hazards associated with street maintenance, including exposure to traffic, heavy equipment, extreme weather, and environmental conditions.


• Perform semi-skilled and unskilled tasks in maintaining and repairing streets, sidewalks, cemeteries, and driveways
• Operate dump trucks to haul materials such as dirt, gravel, and equipment
• Operate loaders and may assist with backhoe operations for basic excavation tasks
• Prepare asphalt for resurfacing and patching projects
• Lay, pour, and finish concrete for curbs, gutters, and sidewalks; build forms and perform masonry work
• Hand grade streets, ditches, and driveways
• Clean storm drains and catch basins
• Perform mowing, trimming, and general landscaping of work areas
• Set up traffic control devices, including cones and signage; may perform flagging duties
• Assist with snow and ice removal using equipment or manual labor
• Fabricate, install, and maintain street signs and pavement markings
• Assist in minor repair and maintenance of equipment and vehicles
• Perform other related duties as required

• High School Diploma or GED
• Two (2) to four (4) years of related experience in street maintenance, construction, or public works;
OR
• An equivalent combination of education and experience


Special Requirements:
• Possession of a valid North Carolina Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire (Class “A” preferred)
• Possession of a valid North Carolina Driver’s Permit
• North Carolina Pesticide License is preferred
• Ability to work on-call and respond to after-hours emergencies as needed

Salary : $39,500 - $49,300
