About the Role
The FOG Compliance Officer performs advanced technical and regulatory work related to monitoring industrial and commercial discharges to the wastewater treatment system. This position plays a key role in protecting the wastewater infrastructure by ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local pretreatment and Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG) regulations.
The FOG Compliance Officer monitors industries and remediation sites through sampling, data analysis, inspections, and reporting; works closely with industrial and commercial customers to promote compliance; and ensures adherence to evolving environmental regulations. Work involves exposure to wastewater, chemicals, and field conditions and is performed under general supervision with review based on accuracy, compliance, and program effectiveness.
Set up and conduct sampling to monitor compliance of industrial and commercial dischargers with permitted levels.
Inspect industrial and commercial facilities for compliance with pretreatment and FOG regulations.
Communicate with regulated entities regarding compliance, noncompliance, corrective actions, and enforcement measures.
Coordinate and review laboratory analysis of wastewater samples and interpret analytical results.
Track, analyze, and manage compliance data using computerized systems.
Prepare required reports including headworks analyses, enforcement response plans, surcharge documentation, and regulatory submissions.
Calculate and issue industrial permits; monitor performance against permit limits; assess fines or surcharges for noncompliance.
Research and recommend program updates to address changing federal, state, and local regulations.
Participate in updating ordinances, policies, and operational practices related to pretreatment and FOG compliance.
Consult with industrial officials to identify process improvements and cost-effective strategies to reduce harmful discharges.
Serve in the absence of other wastewater plant staff as needed.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
High School diploma or GED and five (5) to seven (7) years of directly related experience; or
Two (2) years of college or an Associate’s degree and one (1) to two (2) years of directly related experience; or
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements
Possession of a North Carolina Pretreatment Grade I Certification or the ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire.
Salary : $45,700 - $60,900
