Job Overview
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Assistant Code Enforcement Officer to join our team. This position provides professional code enforcement services, including the review of permit applications, building inspections, code enforcement activities, and assistance to residents, contractors, developers, and business owners regarding local and state code requirements. The Assistant Code Enforcement Officer works under the supervision of the Lead Code Enforcement Officer and plays an important role in promoting safe development and protecting the health, safety, and welfare of the community.
Duties
- Review permit applications and conduct inspections to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal codes.
- Assist residents, contractors, developers, and businesses with permitting and code-related questions.
- Investigate code, zoning, health, and sanitation concerns and support enforcement activities as needed.
- Issue Certificates of Occupancy and other approvals following compliance reviews.
- Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with the public, colleagues, and partner agencies.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have experience in code enforcement, construction, or a related trade; strong communication and customer service skills; knowledge of applicable building and safety codes; and the ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment. State of Maine Code Enforcement Officer certification and a valid driver's license are required.
