THIS POSITION IS WITH SENIOR SERVICES LOCATED AT THE RIVERFRONT COMMUNITY CENTER AND IS 25 HOURS PER WEEK, MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY. THE INDIVIDUAL IN THIS ROLE PLANS, PROMOTES, AND COORDINATES CREATIVE EDUCATIONAL, HEALTH, RECREATIONAL AND CULTURAL CLASSES, PROGRAMS AND TRIPS FOR OLDER ADULTS. PROGRAM PLANNING AND WORKING WITH SENIORS IS DESIRED.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under general supervision of the Senior Center Program Supervisor, incumbent plans, coordinates, conducts and oversees community activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:  

  1. Plans, prepares, and coordinates activities, events and trips, including, but not limited to set up of furniture and equipment, purchase of supplies, scheduling instructors, speakers and entertainers and arranging travel.
  2. Produces and distributes promotional materials such as press releases, flyers, posters and social media outreach.
  3. Oversees implementation of programs, ensuring efficient operation and participant satisfaction. 
  4. Evaluates program success through direct observation, participant feedback and enrollment levels.  Provides recommendations for program changes, and future programming.
  5. Maintains participation statistics, tracks program expenditures and reviews timekeeping records for accuracy.

OTHER DUTIES:

  1. May participate in selection, training and evaluation of seasonal staff.
  2. Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS PROFILE:

  • Ability to:
    • Think creatively

    • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
    • Provide a supportive, encouraging environment for program participants and facilitators
  • Skilled in
    • Understanding others’ reactions to interactions and activities, through direct observation, inquiry and active listening 
    • Planning and coordinating schedules, and resources
    • Using software applications in a Windows environment, desktop publishing and social media
  • Knowledge of
    • Principles and processes for providing customer service, including needs assessment, meeting quality service standards, and evaluating customer satisfaction
    • The structure and content of the English language, including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to:
    • Push/ pull/ lift objects of up to 20 pounds, occasionally
    • Sit or stand, frequently; walk for prolonged periods of time or stoop, occasionally
    • Perform manipulative skills such as keyboarding or filing
    • See objects closely as in typing a document or reading a report; hear normal sounds with background noise, distinguish voice patterns and communicate with speech as in using a telephone
    • Concentrate on moderate detail with some interruption, attend to task 60 minutes or more, remember multiple tasks/assignments given to self and others over long periods; understand and relate to specific ideas, generally, several at a time.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Associates degree from a recognized college in recreation, gerontology, childhood development or a related area of study
  • One (1) year of experience in coordinating recreation programming

OR

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION:

  • Public Service License, desirable
