Protects the safety and well-being of each patron utilizing the aquatics facility. Enforces the aquatics facility's rules and regulations. Assists in supervising, hiring, training and scheduling part-time/seasonal Lifeguard staff.
Examples of Duties
- Performs all Lifeguard job duties and responsibilities ensuring that swimmers are well supervised in the pool and on the deck areas; monitors pool activities; prevents accidents; and minimizes or eliminates hazardous situations.
- Provides emergency care and treatment as necessary until the arrival of emergency medical services. Applies first aid and performs water rescues as necessary.
- Assists in supervising and hiring part-time/seasonal Lifeguard staff.
- Assists in training, development, and evaluating part-time/seasonal Lifeguard staff.
- Assists in planning, implementing, and enforcing Lifeguard staff rotation and schedules. Assists with scheduling of Lifeguard staff to assure adequate aquatics coverage during hours of operation and facility rentals.
- Recommends and enforces all safety rules and regulations of the aquatics facility to patrons.
- Performs miscellaneous administrative tasks necessary for successful aquatics program operations.
- Assists with managing the operation and maintenance of the pools. Maintain standards of safety and sanitation in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, policies, and guidelines for the operation of a public swimming pool. Conducts water tests and add pool chemicals as directed.
- Assists with the distribution, control, and requisitioning of aquatics equipment and supplies. Recommend the purchase of chemicals, first aid supplies, pool supplies, and equipment as necessary.
- Supports other areas within the Community Activity Center by assisting with special events, recreational programs, facility rentals, and facility coverage issues in the absence of staff.
- Prepares and submits reports to include rescues, assists, accidents, and first aid to Supervisor.
- Attends mandatory training and in-service meetings.
- Informs Supervisor of all work-related activities.
- Adheres to the personnel, safety, and divisional policies and procedures of the Town.
- Assists co-workers and other divisions as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- CPR/First Aid and Lifeguard Certifications are required.
- Must have a valid state-issued driver’s license and driving record must be in compliance with Town policy.

- Must be able to talk, see, hear, read, and work in adverse environmental conditions.
- Must be able to perform strenuous physical activities to include running, kneeling, bending, twisting, dragging, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 lbs. of various recreational and athletic equipment.
- Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- A High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is preferred.
- One (1) year of experience as a Lifeguard is preferred.
- Must have excellent leadership, organizational, and communicative skills, both oral and written.
- Must maintain an effective and pleasant working relationship with citizens, the general public, employees, and volunteers.
- Must be able to work various hours, including evenings and weekends as required.
