What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreation Programs Coordinator - Special Events position at Town of Flower Mound?
• Assists with the coordination, implementation, and evaluation of community-wide special events by supporting event planning, logistics, and post-event reporting in accordance with established goals, policies, and procedures.
• Coordinates with Special Events Manager and Parks and Recreation Staff to secure vendors and volunteers for town special events and may assist with this process for events in other Parks and Recreation business areas (CAC, FMSC, TCP and CCE).
• Provides support and guidance to staff and volunteers during events, contributing to a positive and productive work environment.
• Assists with implementing the department’s sponsorship program plan ($50,000 ) by identifying stakeholder needs, communicating with sponsors, managing renewals and negotiations, and identifying new sponsorship opportunities.
• Participates in the budgetary process by tracking assigned expenditures, processing invoices, and helping prepare budget estimates for supplies and materials.
• Collaborates with other Town departments to establish effective safety, security, and management measures for all events.
• Provides support for departmental ceremonies as necessary to include groundbreakings, ribbon cuttings, etc.
• Assists with marketing of all events & ceremonies and special occasions.
• In the absence of the Special Events Manager, completes Special Event Permit Approvals on behalf of the Department.
• Adheres to the personnel, safety, and department policies and procedures.
• Provides assistance to coworkers and performs other duties as assigned to support the Town’s strategic goals.
• Must have a valid Texas Driver’s license and driving record must be in compliance with town policy.
EDUCATION:
• A bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation, Event Management, Tourism, Sports Management, Kinesiology, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
• Must be certified in American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer; or must obtain within 120 days of employment.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
• Must have two years of experience in special events, park and recreation, or related field.
• In lieu of degree, must have six years of experience as a special events coordinator or similar.
EDUCATION:
• Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP)
• Certified Festival & Event Executive (CFEE)
• Must have knowledge of industry standards for special events.
• Must have excellent leadership, organizational, training, and communicative skills, both oral and written.
• Must maintain an effective and pleasant working relationship with citizens, the general public, employees, and volunteers.
• Must be able to work various hours, including evenings, weekends, and Town holidays as required
