Full Time Dispatcher

The Town of Dewey Beach is seeking a reliable Dispatcher with excellent communication skills to receive requests, transmit messages, and track vehicles for emergency and non-emergency calls placed by residents. Candidates must be able to remain calm and composed, especially in emergency situations to ensure accurate and timely transmission of information.

This is a full-time, year-round position. Medical, dental, vision and life insurance offered along with Deferred Compensation Plan as well as vacation, holiday and sick time.

This position requires shift work comprised of:

· 12-hour shifts

· Days, evenings, Overnights, Weekends, Holiday availability

· Average week is 42 hours

Starting pay $20.00/hr.

Responsibilities include:

· Receiving Incoming calls for the Police

· Gather information in minimum amount of time, inform responders and dispatch field officers accordingly.

· Receive after hours calls for various other Town departments and perform emergency call outs.

· Receive and transmit computer teletypes, criminal history, stolen vehicles, warrant information, etc.

· Maintain complete and accurate logs of all Police related calls, recording information such as time of call, personnel dispatched, response times and final disposition.

· Speak clearly on the radio to Police units

· Verify and maintain accurate information for Town and other law enforcement agencies.

Required skills include:

· Ability to read, write, spell and speak in concise English

· Ability to follow oral and written instruction and deal tactfully with the public and others.

· Ability to learn and interpret maps

· Ability to remain calm during emergencies and to obtain relevant information from callers who are in stressful situations.

· Tech Savy

· Ability to learn to accurately enter information into computer systems while receiving information by telephone and radio.

· Outstanding organization and multitasking skills

· Sound judgement and critical thinking

· Ability and willingness to work any shift to which assigned and to work a regular shift that may include working weekends and holidays.

Required education: High school diploma

Required experience: Proven experience as dispatcher or relevant position.
