The Town of Brookline is seeking a dependable and hardworking Motor Equipment Operator I/Laborer to support a variety of public works operations within the Highway division. This position performs skilled and semi-skilled manual labor, operates Town vehicles and small equipment, and contributes to essential maintenance and repair work throughout the community.
Key Responsibilities
Applicants should have a high school diploma and some experience performing manual labor and operating trucks or equipment, along with experience working on construction, roadway, maintenance, or utility projects. Experience with snow and ice operations is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. A valid Class D Driver’s License is required.
Candidates should have general knowledge of equipment operation, workplace safety, work-zone procedures, and standard labor practices. The position requires the ability to drive safely, follow instructions, work cooperatively with other personnel, lift heavy materials, and perform strenuous physical work in varying weather conditions. Key Responsibilities
- Perform a wide range of labor tasks such as removing debris from roadways and walkways, hand sweeping streets, repairing potholes and sidewalks, filling sand barrels, and installing or replacing curb stones.
- Excavate trenches, load and unload tools and materials, clean sewer lines and drainage structures, and open catch basins during flooding or storm conditions.
- Assist with storm cleanup, leaf collection, rubbish and litter pickup, and equipment and vehicle cleaning.
- Carry out tasks such as painting pavement markings, installing temporary signs, repairing or cleaning parking meters, removing graffiti, and setting up barricades or ceremonial flags.
- Participate in winter operations, including plowing, sanding, and shoveling snow.
- Operate light trucks, small tractors, automobiles, and similar equipment in support of daily assignments.
- Perform other duties as required or as operational needs dictate.
