What are the responsibilities and job description for the Middle School And Elementary Band Permanent Substitute Teacher position at Town of Andover?
Andover Public Schools has a strong commitment to music education and are looking for a dedicated, compassionate musician/educator to lead and support our band program. The Andover Public Schools is expanding our instrumental music offerings in 2021-2022 to include in-school lessons, co-taught ensembles, and team-teaching approach to early music education.
Under the direction of the Fine Arts Coordinator and the principals, the Instrumental Band teacher will collaborate with fellow band colleagues to provide instrumental lessons to 4th and 5th grade students, teach 3rd grade recorder courses, conduct ensembles, and will co-lead the Middle School bands at each Middle School. The music teacher will be responsible for all appropriate concerts and productions.1. Instruct instrumental lessons/ensembles at Andover Elementary Schools and all Andover’s three middle schools.
2. Work with other music teachers to coordinate curriculum, events and concerts.
3. Conduct ensembles for performances, in and out of the school day, throughout the school year.
4. Instruct additional general music classes as needed,
5. Position requires transportation between buildings during the school day.
6. All other required duties as requested.1. Massachusetts certification, Music (General, Instrumental, Choral) K-12.
2. Training and/ or academic course work in instrumental music education.
3. Previous elementary and middle school teaching preferred.
4. Functional proficiency on all concert band instruments
5. Highly proficient on at least one wind or brass instrument
6. Positive, energetic, and flexible approach to a process-based and inclusive style of instruction/ rehearsal.
7. Competency working in a culturally diverse environment or the willingness to acquire these skills.
