AMHERST Lifeguard/Swim Instructor Recreation Department FLSA -
Non-Exempt Part-time, Seasonal - Level 1, Step 9 JOB SUMMARY: The
Lifeguard/Swim Instructor is responsible for enforcing pool rules and
regulations to ensure the safety and supervision of all swimmers,
participants, equipment, and the overall facility. They will be heavily
involved with the general public, and will assist in many facets of
overall pool operation. Amherst Recreation Swim Instructors are
responsible for teaching various levels of swimming to children and
adults. Swim Instructors are also responsible for the supervision of the
participants in their designated learning groups. Instructors will be
involved with interacting with the general public, and may be asked to
assist in various facets of overall instruction program. Instructors
will develop lesson plans and act as the lead teacher and/or assist with
swim lessons as assigned by the Aquatics Program Coordinator. Lifeguards
will have a current Red Cross Certification in Lifeguard Training, CPR
for Professional Rescuers and AED and First Aid training. SUPERVISION
RECEIVED: The Lifeguard/Swim Instructor works under the supervision of
the Pool Manager and Aquatics Program Coordinator and in compliance with
departmental policies and procedures. MAJOR DUTIES: Teach and/or assists
with swim lessons. Ensures the safety and supervision of the
participants, equipment and facility by enforcing pool and departmental
rules and regulations. Performs daily check of safety equipment to
ensure it is in the correct place and in good working order. Assists
with regularly scheduled cleaning of pool area, locker rooms and
surrounding areas. Provides courteous, professional assistance to the
public; wear designated staff uniform. Assists with special events as
needed; Attends mandatory staff meeting and in-service trainings;
Performs other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be 15
years of age or older and possess current Red Cross (or equivalent)
certification in: Lifeguard Training, CPR for the Professional Rescuer
and AED, First Aid. Must successfully pass the Town\'s water safety
skill test; must successfully pass Criminal Offender Registry
Information (CORI) and Sex Offender Registry Information (SORI)
background checks. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: WSI certification Previous
experience working at a pool or beach Previous experience teaching
