What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lifeguard position at City of Springfield?
Responsible for the safety of the patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies.
- Recognize emergencies and respond to them effectively
- Enforce all aquatic rules, policies, and regulations to ALL patrons
- Inspect the facility before opening and closing to report any unsafe conditions or equipment to the supervisor
- Complete all paperwork during shifts
- Participate in regular in-service training sessions
- Sign-in all bathers using the facility
- Pick up any and all types of trash in and around the pool facility
- Thorough knowledge of life guarding surveillance and rescue techniques
- An understanding of facility characteristics, rules, policies, and procedures
- Leadership and public relation skills
- Decision making skills
Current certification in the following is needed:
- American Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard Training/First Aid
- American Red Cross or American Heart CPR for the Professional Rescuer
- American Red Cross Waterfront Life guarding, if working at 5-Mile Pond
