Manufacturing Process Engineer – Workflow & Production Optimization
Job Summary
We are seeking a Manufacturing Process Engineer with a strong background in workflow optimization and steel manufacturing operations. This role is responsible for analyzing and improving production flow, labor utilization, material movement, and manufacturing efficiency throughout the plant. The ideal candidate will have experience coordinating production processes, identifying bottlenecks, improving workflow systems, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives to support safety, quality, delivery, and productivity goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and improve manufacturing workflows to increase production efficiency and reduce downtime, scrap, and production delays.
- Develop and implement process flow improvements for steel manufacturing, fabrication, stamping, welding, or assembly operations.
- Monitor daily production activities and identify bottlenecks affecting throughput, labor efficiency, and material flow.
- Collaborate with production, maintenance, quality, and logistics teams to improve operational performance and workflow consistency.
- Create and maintain standardized work instructions, process maps, and workflow documentation.
- Support scheduling and production planning activities to improve line balance and workflow efficiency.
- Lead continuous improvement projects focused on productivity, cycle time reduction, waste elimination, and process stability.
- Evaluate plant layout, workstation design, and material handling processes to improve operational flow and ergonomics.
- Utilize Lean Manufacturing principles, 5S, Kaizen, and root cause analysis tools to improve workflow processes.
- Assist with implementation of new equipment, tooling, and production processes while minimizing disruption to operations.
- Monitor KPIs including throughput, downtime, labor utilization, scrap rates, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
- Support cross-functional teams during new product launches and process changes to ensure smooth workflow integration.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field preferred. Will consider experience without a degree.
- Equivalent manufacturing and workflow optimization experience may be considered.
Experience
- 3–10 years of experience in manufacturing, process engineering, production coordination, or workflow optimization in steel or heavy industrial environments.
- Experience improving production flow and operational efficiency in high-volume manufacturing environments.
- Background in steel processing, fabrication, welding, stamping, or assembly operations preferred.
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong understanding of workflow analysis, process mapping, and production optimization.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement, and waste reduction initiatives.
- Ability to analyze production data and implement process improvements.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to work across departments.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, ERP systems, and manufacturing software.
- Knowledge of industrial safety practices and manufacturing quality standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification.
- Experience with production scheduling and capacity planning.
- Familiarity with automated manufacturing systems and industrial equipment.
- Experience within automotive or steel manufacturing industries.
