What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNC Manufacturing Cost Estimation Engineer position at Toolcraft Machining?
At our Germantown, WI facility, your day starts with a challenge: translate complex blueprints into accurate, competitive quotes for precision-machined parts. As our CNC Manufacturing Cost Estimation Engineer, you’ll bridge engineering, production, and business development—turning customer RFQs into efficient manufacturing plans and winning proposals.
A Day in the Life- Open new RFQs and dissect drawings/specs to choose the most efficient processes for CNC milling and turning (5-axis exposure is a plus).
- Estimate total cost of ownership—labor, materials, outside services—for parts across materials like forgings, castings, and super alloys (Monel, Inconel, Titanium, and more).
- Build toolpaths and verify manufacturability using CAM and CAD (Mastercam and Solidworks), applying GD&T and sound shop math.
- Partner with product design to quote new product development and fixture concepts; document process flows and create clear work instructions.
- Collaborate with production leaders for smooth project hand-offs and schedule alignment in ERP.
- Support negotiations to help close opportunities; follow up with cost analyses to drive reductions and continuous process improvements.
- Hands-on CNC machining experience in milling and turning; 5-axis familiarity is beneficial.
- Proficiency with CAD/CAM (Mastercam/Solidworks preferred) and 3D modeling.
- Fluent in blueprint interpretation, GD&T, and practical shop math.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment, including process development and product design exposure.
- Comfort with documentation, data entry/analysis, and ERP basics.
- High School diploma or GED.
