Position Overview
The Project Controls Specialist will play a critical role in supporting the Project Management Office (PMO) by delivering comprehensive project control services, including scheduling, cost management, and performance reporting. This position is responsible for ensuring projects are executed efficiently by monitoring progress, analyzing performance metrics, and identifying risks and variances across multiple active projects.
This role directly contributes to the successful delivery of complex infrastructure initiatives by providing data-driven insights, maintaining accurate project schedules in Primavera, and supporting continuous improvement of project control processes and reporting systems. The ideal candidate is highly analytical, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and update project schedules using Oracle Primavera (P6) for multiple concurrent projects
- Perform project controls functions including cost tracking, scheduling, forecasting, and performance reporting
- Conduct cost and schedule variance analysis to identify risks, delays, and budget deviations
- Analyze project data and provide actionable insights to project managers and stakeholders
- Prepare and deliver detailed project reports, dashboards, and executive presentations
- Support PMO initiatives to improve project delivery processes, tools, and reporting systems
- Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to review project scope, schedule, and cost performance
- Maintain accurate project coding structures, including work breakdown structures (WBS) and activity codes
- Provide milestone tracking, look-ahead reports, and schedule logic analysis
- Participate in project and workload meetings, ensuring timely updates and follow-ups
- Assist in training and onboarding of new team members on project controls processes and tools
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related technical field OR Project Management Professional (PMP) certification combined with a technical degree
- Minimum of 1–3 years of progressively responsible experience in project controls, including scheduling, cost control, and performance reporting
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience using Oracle Primavera P6 (version 21 or higher preferred)
- Strong knowledge of project control principles, including cost management, scheduling, variance analysis, and performance reporting
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) with strong data analysis and reporting capabilities
- Experience developing and maintaining Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and project coding systems
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex data clearly
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting large-scale infrastructure or capital projects
- Familiarity with capital planning, cost-benefit analysis, and risk management frameworks
- Experience working within a Project Management Office (PMO) environment
- Exposure to dashboard development and reporting tools
- Prior experience working with public sector agencies or transportation authorities
- Experience contributing to process improvement or system enhancements in project controls
